And your discrediting the real sources like Epic with no proof. I find it odd people rather listen to anonymous sources who, after they've been proven wrong, will never be heard from again than to sources who have put their name out there along with their statements.

Also, I find it very odd the anonymous sources can't say a thing about clock speeds, amount of shaders or other specific details. It's all just unspecified guesses really.
It should be very easy to determine technical specifications when you have the hardware. Especially things like the amount of shader processors.
Furthermore, as others have pointed out, the rumors regarding the Wii U have gone all over the place. The only thing that seems consistent is the 1.5 GB of RAM. Are we to believe the Eurogamer rumors and ignore all the other rumors? Or is it the other way around? What gives the Eurogamer rumors more credibility than other sites' rumors?

To me it looks like you want to believe the Wii U isn't powerful because it's the Wii U.

What did Epic say exactly? Surely not something overly positive since they won't even be putting their new engine on the console.

Isn't powerful? It's a bit more powerful than a PS3! I'm just saying I expected this and when we get the official tech details I'll be sure to post about it here. You will excuse me if I really don't have much trust in Nintendo, who are staying in the shadows like they have something to hide.

Epic said they reckon it's about 4 times more powerful than a 360.

We also heard Brian Burleson from Gearbox say it's been pretty easy porting Aliens: Colonial Marines to the Wii U and stating the Wii U version will be the best looking one.

While Epic's statements might have been a bit bold seeing as they haven't really worked with the Wii U intensively they have seen the dev kit and can't be written off as moron's who don't know what they're talking about.

With Gearbox's Aliens on the other hand we get clear and undeniable proof that the Wii is at the very least more powerful than the 360 and PS3. How much more powerful is anybody's guess but I tend to put more fate in sources with names and reputations than the rumors from anonymous sources.

With Eurogamer specifically it seems they're rehashing the same rumor to try and add credibility to their story. I remember reading those 'quotes' in several other but more importantly, older articles as well.

So far we've heard rumor say it's 1.5x the 360/PS3 in terms of processing power, we've heard rumor say it's way more powerful, we've heard rumor say it's weaker than the 360/PS3 because it's graphically less capable and now it's supposedly only really on par with the 360 because the cpu is dreadfully slow but the graphics card is more capable. I'm sorry, that's too inconsistent.

I had a quick re-read and it sounds like they've gathered info from a few different sources (both named and anonymous) from a range of articles and interviews to give the conclusions in their article.

The info in the article doesn't actually say anything to suggest the CPU is weaker, just that its clocked slower than the PS3/360 (3.2 GHz), which doesn't actually mean much. I think they have 1 dev quote which says they could see some CPU limitations for some types of games in the future, but that doesn't currently mean a whole lot. Personally, I think in that respect, they're drawing conclusions on limited information.

The inconsistencies between different devs claims are likely due to different SDK versions and at least to some degree, developer skill/game type.

But Eurogamer makes it seem like it's definitely weaker than the 360/PS3. I can't understand why though, does Eurogamer benefit from a poorly performing Nintendo platform or are they just one of the sour grapes who were against motioncontrols and can't stand the fact Nintendo was succesful with the Wii?

As for the inconsistencies. A year ago we had various statements from several big name 3rd party dev's claiming Wii U would be a lot more powerful than the HD twins. So unless Nintendo has decided to weaken the dev kits (very unlikely) I say it's all regular anti Ninty bs.
