So we are at the point where the RNC is happening this week and then next week we get into the DNC. We can make a thread for that one next week as well. Last night we had the first night of the RNC convention. Anybody have any thoughts on what you have watched so far? Any speeches you thought were good/bad? I thoght it was quite interesting that the Key note address by Chris Christie was expected to be him slamming barack Obama. Instead he did not mention the name "Obama" one time during his speech. A  bit surprising considering that historically the Key note speaker is usually always seen as the "attack dog" speech. Especially surprising when you think of how blunt Chris Christie can be. Never the less I thought his speech was direct and hit some key notes for his party's platform.

One aspect I thought was very interesting but not surprising was the excessive amount of comments made by left wing media individuals. Many comments were made about the how the quote "Republicans cant just tout out brown faces". Another media person was caught on tape saying the Romneys "are happy to have a party with black people drowning" referring to the hurricane going on at the time. And apparently Chris Mathews has been going bonkers lately repeatedly claiming that Republicans are playing the race card and implying racism. Another media person on NBC News recently claimed that the republicans are promoting the "N*#%erization of Obama" saying that they see him as the "scary black man."Then you had NBC News apparently not cover any minorities' speeches except for Nikki Haley's speech. Didn't cover the speech of Mia Love, nor the speech of Artur Davis. Then we saw Mia Love's wikipedia page get hacked over night with statements calling her a "dirty worthless whore", a "right wing hate machine" "like the house N____ she truly is."  It seems to be getting pretty heated and its sad seeing some of these things in the media but not surprising. Im not saying it dosn't go on with both sides but lately its been pretty sad seeing it.

As far as the speeches however I thought there were some good and some bad. The one that I did like was the one by Artur Davis. He really seemed to put a lot of meat into his. He was a former Democrat house representative who endorsed Obama in '08 and seems to now be supporting Romney. Here is his speech:

Anyone else have thoughts? Lets keep this consturctive. I welcome debate, but in a reasonable manner.
