Teenage Mutant Ninja (or Hero) Turtles FTW!
Ah, the NES days... I kinda miss my childhood when I see that list.

I still don't get that. Why was Ninja not allowed to be said on UK television.

Also, why were Nunchucks illegal in the UK. Yet Sais, Swords and Bo Staffs are ok?

Did Britain once get secretly sacked by a bunch of nunchuk wielding ninjas?

After Bruce Lee made nunchuks popular, every kid in the UK got hold of some or made their own. Unfortunately, they couldn't use them properly and ended up smashing themselves in the face. They were banned after a number of reports about people injuring themselves, which tends not to happen with less unwieldy weapons.

The ninja/hero thing is a reflection of just how censorious the british media was in the '80s/early-'90s. I guess they thought kids would turn into stealth assassins or something.

Mario obviously pre-dates the NES, and Bomberman, like Metal Gear, originated on the MSX (before the NES era).
