Yea that's what stuck out to me...

If this begins Oct. 25th I doubt they expect people to hold on to the toys for close to 3 weeks before the console actually launches.

That's like handing out an AC adapter with no phone to charge it with; no use.

Three weeks is hardly that much time. It's called "marketing and hype". Build up hype for it in the weeks leading up to the system's launch and the system will sell out at launch, then continue selling out continually for months to follow because the hype will only build.
