LOL. Because the Wii sold so much means the WiiU will do so too? LOL.

The Giants are the reigning Superbowl champions.  This shows that their coaching is strong, their players are talented, and their overall strategies are working.

Now does this mean that the Giants will definitely win the superbowl next year?  No.  Could the Giants collapse and go 0-16?  Sure.  Does it mean they're in a better position than other teams?  Yeah.

Claiming that the Wii U will automatically win because of the Wii is stupid.  Ignoring their past success is just as stupid.

I think there is some validity to his points but so far I haven't seen anything from WiiU that will draw in casuals, at least not in the same way Wii Sports brought in people. Plus casuals are well served with tablets and smart phones now which have tons of great casual games. To pull people away from those cheap/free games WiiU (according to Nintendo themselves) must present game play that tablets can't. So to accomplish this Nintendo makes a tablet controller. Wait, what?

If you want to appeal to tablet game players, you have to offer something different.  Yet, at the same time, those players may be intimidated by something like a Dualshock 3 controller.  The Wii U tablet is something different.  The dual screens, multiplayer capabilities, and buttons can offer some really unique options when combined with the tablet.  At the same time, it's something familiar and unintimidating.

The question still remains, can the wii u compete? Shakes 8 ball, " all signs point to no"'.

That is not the question. Nintendo is on top overall everywhere. The question is can Sony and Microsoft.

The Wii has been dead to 3rd party's for a lot longer than the sales of the system has slow down.  Right now, it's getting the same treatment as the vita, ports and more ports. There is over 130 million PS3/Xbox360 What makes them think these people are going to drop their friends list, their trophies and gamer score and a superior online service to make the jump for ports? Wii u is also in danger of launching out side of the 200-250 sweet spot causal player needs. So the core players is their only hope of this thing taking off like a rocket. I guess no one remembers the 64 and GameCube days where the spent 15 years dead last. So no, the questions isn't can the ps3 and xbox can keep up it's if the Wii U can. Also don't for get that the PS2 sold nearly 50 million into this gen. I don't think the wii u stands a chance.

The Wii's relationship to third parties is due to its hardware deficiencies, and that was addressed in the article.  Third parties WANT to be able to make games for the Wii.  They want every revenue stream possible.  If they CAN bring games to the Wii U, they will.

As for the 130 million gamers, there are tons of people who bought the Wii that will be looking to upgrade. There are a lot of truly hardcore gamers who want to have every system possible.  There are kids that are 5-10 who are looking for their first gaming system.  There are people who started playing on their iPad and are curious to see what else may be out there.  There are people who never played games before in their lives.  There's a big world out there, and Nintendo has always wanted a piece of that.  I think people are underestimating the potential of the Wii U to appeal to casual markets.
