Playstation, just like XBox are more than just gaming consoles. They are living room media hubs.

That may be the case, but I can't imagine any point in including something in a system, technology which is still in its very early infancy, for something other than the primary purpose of the system.

I.E- There's no point including it otherwise because they undermine their own tech.

4k  Bd players are already available for $200 and no doubt less by the time holidays come along. PS4 isn't out till at least late next year and those 4k players will no doubt cost much less then.

 

They would undermine their own media machine if it lacked 4kbd video playback.
