Isn't it appalling that critics nowadays have standards so low?   

What is appalling is that the guys who rate games also take money from publishers to avertise them. This kind of conflict of interests would be unthinkable in any other media/industry. CoD keeps getting 8.5 or 9 out of 10 despite lower quality every year, it's just revolting.
