Bloody good point. A friend and I recently played through Mario World on my SNES (on the 20th anniversary in the UK). Took us about 4h 30m. The only place we got stck was the same bloody place I first got stuck as a kid. The lost woods. |
Yup, and SMW had the most content out of the old games, including the star road. Still it was pretty easy and you had saves too. SMB3, despite the lack of saves is also pretty easy, in the sense that even if you die a few times in some places it's just to easy to hoard lifes despite the fact that you can't replay levels. SMB2 is simply an outlier. The first game is the only one for hich a case might be made, in the sense that lifes mattered a bit more and as such I think it had the best "coin and 1-up mechanic". Still, if you had saves and could replay levels and stack lives, it would be incredibly easy.
Truth is, in general the New games offer more content and actually have more levels which are a bit more challenging. Now of course if you play games with essentialy the same basic mechanics for decades they're gonna seem much easier.
