So why exactly does UK still have a royal family? Scared to let go of a tradition?

I wouldnt necessarily say tradition since they have no power any more, but more along the lines of the fact that although the royal family are expensive to the UK taxpayer, they bring in a lot of money from tourism and it would be a rather strange transition to go from having a royal family to not, especially given how patriotic the whole country is at the moment.

I honestly have never heard of a single person tell me they've visited any country for a monarch. Although you do have a point about the transition.

Nobody visits the capital solely for the monarch, well unless you count the royal wedding or diamond jubilee. They are just like the london eye, or big ben, one of many reasons to visit.  http://money.uk.msn.com/news/celebrity-money/articles.aspx?cp-documentid=154001233 this might be useful as a brief idea of the financials.
