It isn't the same game though.  Titles like that had ended up appearing on handhelds for awhile, and they didn't make a difference.

The Vita having a dual stick setup, something that PS3/360 gamers feel very comfortable with, is an advantage prior portable games in this vein haven't had before. Yeah, there was Burning Skies, isn't in the same size class as AC or COD.

True, but statistically most handheld gaming is done in ones own home. With great games on portables that are cheap and growing in the amount of publishers supporting it, Vita is looking more and more like something that does not offer as much. My mobile can play great games and go with me anywhere. I see little room for portables outside of phones and tablets very soon. The only region that might save it is Japan. People should not be surprised if it goes the way of the Dreamcast.

Maybe it's just that I haven't experienced it, (I was only 12 and unware of console wars when the Dreamcast went kaput) but I just fnd it hard to imagine a major console like the Vita actually dropping off the market and ceasing production within 2 years. I mean, Sony can be damn stubborn, I find it more believable that they'll fight an unprofitable uphill battle a la the PS3 than let it die after investing so much in it. And that's only if the worst comes to the worst, Vita still has cards to play.

If the Vita fails it will fail more like the Saturn and less like the Dreamcast ...

Essentially, Sony wouldn't "dump it" after 2 years; it would just be kept around in a form of living death in its third and forth years so that Sony would have time to engineer a replacement. For every game worth playing released to the PS-Vita in this time period 10 would be released to the 3DS, and possibly 5 would be released for smart phones. This would result in significant "hurt feelings" between fans, retailers, and third party publishers and Sony would have an uphill battle when they released their next handheld.
