lol I'm still writing my fanfic which is a mixture of Final Fantasy and Pokemon, but the storyline is akin to ZOIDS: Chaotic Century/Guardian Force (I love that anime and how it was setup, despite its faults; I own all 11 of the shows DVDs). The 'Trainers' in the game are able to battle along side their Pokemon and other 'Trainers.' Each Trainer has a job (like the FF ones) and can change once their lvl and rank are high enough so they can switch.
But my fanfic is set up with parts of the FFXI world (most of the monsters occur, but not the landmasses). Like, for a Dragoon in my story, they either have a dragon-like Pokemon or a pure Dragon-type as their partner. My one character is a Dragoon and has a Charizard as her partner. She has a lance as her weapon to fight opposing enemies, monsters and Pokemon. The Pokemon in the story are actually caretakers of animals in our world, and they protect animals from monsters (I ONLY use the Undead, Arcane, Elementals, Demons, Magic-Pots etc. in the story).
I believe if Nintendo had partnered with Square-Enix and made a Pokemon MMO, it would be pretty decent. I mean, they should at least make the Trainers DO something besides giving commands during battle.
