I'll read the rest of your post after I comment on this: You're wrong. There actually isn't a secret on every single screen of the overworld map. There are many (probably around 80-85%) but it is not every single one. There are screens with literally nothing to find except monsters as you continue on to the next screen. Case in point: The far bottom right screen had nothing but the corner of the ocean and a path to walk.
