There is no need, but it's nice to hear the proper story behind them. |
To expand a bit on OreImo, the gag of the series is that you have a virtually perfect human being (track star, straight 'A' student, model, etc.) who happens to play erotic visual novels as a hobby. Her brother is a fairly normal guy and he finds out his sister has this hobby. Because hentai and similar things are looked down upon in Japan just as much as they are here, she of course tries to hide it from her parents and he helps. They become friends with this wacky gag that his 'perfect sister' is a otaku. There's also other funny characters and tropes (comiket, maid cafe, etc.) that it uses, but it does paint a realistic picture that while still seen as vile or replusive by many, there are still many normal people who love anime, manga, cosplay, etc.
That said, I really didn't like the show or the main character. Just giving some thoughts on it.
