Well, the trailer clearly shows that the entire game was designed with the Wii U controller in mind. And given how it will release close to launch/christmas, sales are likely to be very high, even on a Nintendo console. In a previous trailer they also showed how dolls can be put on the Wii U controller and interact with the game, which is something the Vita can't do.

It simply wouldn't make sense to port this game to another console. They would have to redesign the whole thing.

I think you're kind of missing my point.   My issue wasn't about the design of the game being uneasy to port to other systems, it's why they'd design a Rayman game from the ground up for Wii-U when Nintendo's previous system gave them least support of all the console versions.  If they had released Origins solely for the Wii, it would have made a big loss (granted, if it released solely for any system it would have made a loss).  Without a moneyhat, which fans assure me Nintendo would never do, it just seems like an odd business decision.  Especially against direct competition from Mario.

If this is just sort of a re-using assets spin-off for Wii-U, then it makes a little more sense, but the trailers for it looked like a full & proper sequel, to me at least!
