First of all, native 1080p requires about twice the GPU power compared to 720p and we know that Batman Armored edition already has other image enhancements which also burden the GPU. And having PS360 games in mind as a reference, we must also remember that the Wii U controller features additionally demands some GPU power. So all in all this would require a GPU that is at least 2.5x the power of a PS3 or X360. Now I do believe the Wii U's GPU speed is in that ballpark, but I would be extremely surprised to see this be accomplished this early in its lifetime, by a lazy third party developer porting a one year old game. And finally, the Eurogamer graphics guy couldn't detect anything suggesting 1080p in his analysis of Batman on Wii U. |
If you compare the Geforce 7800 GT (Graphics card containing same GPU as PS3) with the Radeon HD 4850/4870 (most likely GPU for Wii U) on the same game you get the following results (both 4xAA and 16xAF for apples to apples comparison):
1280x960: 34.9fps (7800GT), 118 (radeon 4850), 154 (radeon 4870)
1600x1200: 23.2fps (7800GT), 89 (radeon 4850), 114 (radeon 4870)
1920x1440: 15.5fps (7800GT), 65 (radeon 4850), 84 (radeon 4870)
