If Microsoft and Sony focus on console power upgrades alone, both of them will see notable sales decline in the next generation.

It is highly doubtful that anyone is going to make anything that looks significantly better than what will be on the Wii U for a long time. Nintendo also has both a head start and the strongest name brand, on top of their new interface and display options on the Wii U Game pad.

The Wii is already "dead" by many accounts, but even with that being the case, and a new system on the way, it is not very far behind either Xbox or PS3 in weekly sales - and it totally demolished them in total sales with far less power. The DS crushed the PSP, and the 3DS is crushing the Vita even more so. Power of console is not nearly as important to increasing sales any longer, and it hasn't been for years.
