I work in a power plant (gas & steam turbine)
- A Generator Circuit Breaker is able to sustain and open itself upon a generator short circuit fault, at 120kA.
- If a steam turbine is fed by steam without its lube oil system, then it breaks and the shaft can sometimes jump hundreds of meters. We're talking about an equipement of several tons. This also can happen when the turbine overspeeds, that's why overspeed protection system (triggered at 3 - 5% of its nominal speed) is so important.
