He fixed it six months ago.  I don't know how having a fixed auto-pilot gets him out of a nuclear explosion, though.  They made a big enough deal about it, mentioning it it three or four times throughout the movie, but still.

Even though they didnt show it, he probably set it to auto-pilot and somehow jumped out sometime or at least that is how some people are explaining it, but who knows, maybe they'll do something with the blu-ray release to explain it xD!
