I've seen this happen... well, practically every generation. Back in the day, the SNES got a lot of flak for coming out late and was said to have no chance of stealing the market back from the Genesis since Sega had gotten so much of the third-party support that the NES had previously held. The PS1 was said to be too gimmicky, yet another jaded corporate cash-in attempt like the CD-i, and had no chance to steal the limelight from Nintendo. The PS2 was predicted to be an instant failure since the DreamCast had the lead and since the PS2 wasn't as powerful as promised. They were all wrong, of course.

Naysayers and disbelievers of success. They've always been around, they'll never really go away. I guess they just want to be there on the off chance that something downright near-impossible happens and the unlikely scenario they're proposing happens.
