It could also be that Nintendo is shifting producting to the WiiU, and retailers have difficulty getting them. Pretty much, the reason for the shortage issue has to do with the WiiU coming out. Look for Nintendo to likely do something different with the Wii itself, as the WiiU hits. Clear out the supply chain now, while waiting for the WiiU to come out, and the decide what to do with the Wii. Say the Wii will drop to $99 without a pack-in. You clear these out now, and then adjust price.
I could see Nintendo decides to make the WiiU $250 and has two games packed in, Nintendoland and Super Mario U. Have this get going, then have the $99 Wii also hit later.
