Hard for me to compare the two since one was almost completely rooted in reality and the other was 80% fantasy.
Based on how well each movie executed their respective goals, I'd say Avengers was a better movie, but TDKR was more ambitious since it made you take a man in a bat suit seriously.
Side note: Isn't it ironic how the climax of each movie was the threat of a nuclear bomb going off in a major city?
