Not sure about Sony, but the Battlefield 3 beta got a lot of flak from ignorant players. I played the Uncharted 3 beta and the Starhawk beta and they were just fine. It was the Twisted Metal beta that was a little broken, and that didn't work out, the beta was too short and too close to the launch date. That game needed another month or two in development testing for the multiplayer. It's the only sour beta I can think of recently.
Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(
