PS2 2001 sales numbers vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =)

It is tracking similar to the PS2 but you CAN'T compare them like that.  The environment is completely different now than it was then. 

If you want to remain with blinders on, that is fine, but try to realize the context of data is usually more important than the numbers.  Obviously the PS3 isn't a flop as I am sure many on the forums wished for, but it most certainly doesn't stand much of a chance of PS2 numbers.

The logic you are using is the same that Nintendo fans use when they take a chart like this:

and claim the Wii will be the best selling system of all time. 

Sure these claims are POSSIBLE but there is no possible way to determine that from the data we have now, and the numbers, in context, certainly don't back up either claim.
