Sacramento is the capital, but I don't think it's such a great place. I haven't been there in a looong time, but my friend who is from there couldn't wait to get out of there.
Your best bet would be going to other places. San Francisco isn't too far away from Sac-town, San Jose is also not much further away.. I think there are quite a few national parks in the other direction as well.
I'm from a bit further south than that, Monterey area. There's a great Aquarium there, it's nice if you like golf as well. (Pebble Beach)
