A disadvantage with pre-recorded panorama view is the camera that did the recording is on a fixed position in space. This means the recording on the upad can only be rotated from said position. This breaks the illusion a little for the person holding the Upad as the user would tend to move the controller slightly laterally sometimes(moving the pad horizontally/vertically without rotating) and wont see a change in the image on the U-pad. edit:It's probably the reason why we haven't heard any WOW! news from the e3 booth.
But for something not prerecorded on a fixed point camera( something rendered in-game), I guess the developer can make image movements for lateral motion to if needed. And maybe use the inwards camera for 'recalibration' purposes (to know if the person has the upad directly infront his face so sensors wont get confused after vigous play) or even aid in sensing lateral movement.
