I'm surprised by the $179 price. I didn't think Sony would cut the price but if they were to, I thought they would go to $199 at.the lowest. The $179 price is nearly a $100 drop! Should be some nice numbers this year if true. I wonder how Microsoft will react.

I'm betting this holiday we'll see...

$99 Wii
$149 X360
$179 PS3
$279 to $299 WiiU

Microsoft won't cut the price IMHO. If they manage to sell 11m X360 next fiscal year without price cut they will earn much more money than sellning 13m after a 50$ price cut.

They're already losing marketshare... they couldn't justify not doing a price cut vs a PS3 model w/ Bluray, free online, AND 4x the storage.

Marketshare at this stage is pointless. The WiiU is coming out, MS and Sony consoles will come out next year, and the 360 has a solid market size that third parties will continue developing for it. So while Sony gets $30 to $50 profit per console sold, the 360 is probably making around $100-$150. Let's not forget Live is also bursting in profits. So who's making the smart decision here?
