Sales - PS3 Vs Wii sales! - View Post

The sad issue is that Wii is selling to the casuals and others that are thus far, not really caring about graphics or innovative gameplay that so far the Wii has been lacking in. Yes, it has "waggle" and all the bells and whistles in the Wiimote, but the primary issue is that the Wii offers some graphical upgrades vs. last gen, and for now, consumers are happy enough. Why is this important? During last-gen, we had a transition from 3d to 3d from the PS1/64 era to the PS2/Xbox era. The original games for PS2 severely sucked, and weren't an uber-upgrade, despite the DVD drive, 10x better processor, ect. However, once year 2-3 rolled around, the contrasts were huge. IMO, when Christmas 2007 comes rolling around, we WILL see where the Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360 will stand in the places of history. So what if console X sells well and console Y doesn't during the off-peak holiday, when traditionally, a console can double (or fail to) it's entire year's base in just 8-9 weeks.

The "so what" is that these trends tend to continue. And by "tend" I mean "they've only reversed themselves 1 or 2 times in the history of video games." Once all three systems are out, the system that sells best during May sells best during Christmas, the system that sells worst during May sells worst during Christmas. You can look at year 1, year 2, year 3, year 6, it doesn't matter: the sales in May tend to correspond directly with those in December.
