I definitely consider myself smarter than the average person, if the average person is represented well where I live. I can say this with confidence due to the fact that the people I'm surrounded by lack the understanding of certain higher level forms of thinking. There are some people who say there are different types of intelligence and that may be arguable, but I can see where this idea comes from. Even from that perspective, though, I come out above the average person. I learn how to play music faster, memorize series of numbers better, understand grammar more effectively (though I am still weak on that front), and so on. Where this comes from, I do not know. I don't buy into the whole thing where "because I'm white" or "because I'm asian" that I am capable of doing certain things. I think it is possible that even some of the smallest things in the environment coupled with genetics may have let me be "smarter" than the average person. I am by no means the smartest person around, probably not the smartest person on this site but holy crap I know I am smarter than the average person I know.
