Well DQX is also announced for Wii U. Which will undoubtedly be a better version. So I think it's a fair comparison.

The only thing I'm not sure about is FF11 required an add-on (I think it was a hard-drive?). DQX also requires an add-on I suppose in that it needs extra memory however it's easier to obtain. So that makes things a little less fair but not a million miles out. 

But back when FFXI was released and announced on the PS2 MMORPGs were not nearly as big as they are now especially in Japan and the few ones that were successful were all on PC.

And yeah I think the game came with the HDD add-on on PS2 and costed like 99$ in NA.

I guess we're going to have to see how the Wii U version fares to see the big picture. I know if I ever get the game it will be on the Wii U and I'm sure a lot of people plan the same.
