It's not really equivalent as the 3DS version only has one game, MGS3. The Vita version has MGS2 and MGS3, costs 1,000 yen less and sold close to 50% less FW.

A high install base will do that......

Actually the 3DS version flopped even harder considering the much higher install base it had on release of the 3DS version.
