First and foremost do any of you even know the technology behind a cloud service? One of the reasons why people are saying that ms does not have to respond to Sony is because ms as a business is in the forefront of technology when it comes to cloud services. MS already have the streaming technology for 1080p video. MS already have the huge data centers, hardware and software and the platform to host the services.
Gaikai is a future investment for Sony not something that will be a game changer because Google, MS, Apple already have the infrastructure to do what Sony has purchased. This purchased by Sony gives them the ability to stay competitive when streaming cloud services work consistently enough for the current net infrastructure.
I believe what people need to understand there will be a lot of work Sony will need to do in order to get Gaikai integrated with their own network. This is only the beginning if the investment and if it takes to long to get everything up and running, it gives time to the competition who have already such systems up and running to bring out a solid product first. One of the dangers Sony can face is bolting on a different system to their network only to produce a clunky product while the competition has a well integrated system that trumps their efforts.
