GoW is God of War and GOW is Gears of War? Or GOW is God and Gears is GoW?

Simple?

God of war was released first, that is why the acronym GOW/GoW/gow/Gow/gOW/gOw is used for that game.

Gears of War released later so it needs another acronym in order to distinguish itself, like GeOW or GOFW/GeoWAR or any other crap people come up with.

Most people just call it Gears that is still shorter then saying the whole title and pretty much everyone knows what your talking about.
