they need no excuse, they said they won't come and that's it. fans know it, if they still drive to gamescom to see microsoft it's their own problem. it's not like you have to do that as company. in reality, gamescom is very useless if you don't have something in your pipeline (price reduction) or a new console to show it to public when most still don't have that console.

but yeah, maybe 50k of the vistors are interested in xbox games, most of them already have one and all they could do is playing 3 or 5 exclusives for 5 minutes which they can download later as demo^^  rest of the games (multi-plats) are still there.

In your opinion, Gamescom is useless outside of price reductions and console variations. In reality, Gamescom is quite an outlet for the EU market to get a look at upcoming stuff (or new announcements - such as Heavy Rain's first gameplay preview in 2008).

Just because Microsoft will be a no-show doesn't make the show useless. They either have nothing major or are saving what they have for next gen. It also doesn't make it any less frustrating for some of their fans.

sure and they can show the same over the internet or on other places. i mean, if they show videos of upcoming games, they can show the video on youtube and those few exclusives you can play...as example everything we saw on e3 could have been released without e3. we just wouldn't have seen a stage then with some pr guys talking crap. and those few games you could play like forza horizan will be available as demo on my xbox. i live only half an hour away from it and i still see it not as bad as peope who will never be there in their life. i got the feeling people who see the biggest importance in gamescom are always those who live like 10k miles away...
