I'd say the gameplay is excellent in most COD games. At 60fps its very fluid and responsive. It also pioneered a lot of new things, including stabbing with the analogue stick (I think?) and the implementation of killstreaks etc. There has since been a lot of copy cats, for a reason. |
COD4 was was great, and looked great. (For it's time)
The ones since then have fallen shot of greatness by lacking the innovation COD4 had, but were still largely decent. (I hate the multiplayer though)
World at War looked and played solidly.
Modern Warfare 2 looked excellent but had serious balance issues, a nonsensical plot, and overused devices like the "death of your character from your POV." It's overall pretty bad.
Black Ops had a strong story but it's graphics were starting to show their age.
Modern Warfare 3 is good mindless fun, but again, isn't anything really special graphically.
