IGN ranks Pixar's Movies

Ranking Pixar movies is difficult. Very difficult. Here's my shot at it, though:

13. Cars 2: The very definition of selling out. Pretty disgusting of Pixar to even think about making this movie the way they did.

12. Brave: Might just be the initial disappointment talking but this movie has made me truly scared for Pixar's future. It is so formulaic and full of cliches. Has Pixar run out of their own ideas? I really hope not.

11. Cars: Not really that bad, but definitely the worst movie before the previous 2 I just listed. Definitely worth watching, however.

10. A Bug's Life: This movie is good, and it has the honor of having the best Pixar short to date before the movie (Geri's Game), but this movie just doesn't have the heart of the rest of the Pixar's movies.

[The four movies above I would say are the bottom of the barrel for Pixar. The original Cars and A Bug's Life are good, but they don't hold a candle to the rest of the movies. The remaining movies are all truly amazing in my eyes and it's hard to rank them, but I'll try.]

9. Toy Story 3; I don't know what it is, I really don't, but this movie just didn't connect with me. I can recognize that it was a remarkable movie and I did love it, but...I didn't cry. That may sound strange but I cry during most every Pixar movie and for some reason I didn't with this one and it bugs me. Superb movie nonetheless.

8. Toy Story: The movie that started it all, and it's still good to this day. I just feel that Pixar has improved so much since this movie was made that it can't really stand as high as the other Pixar movies.

7. Ratatouille: I have to admit that I didn't really like this movie too much the first time I saw it. After a subsequent viewing I realized I was mistaken. This movie is amazing and I can definitely understand how it is their highest rated movie (by metacritic standards, at least).

6. Toy Story 2: My favorite of the Toy Story trilogy. The meta humor the movie makes with its self awareness of it being a sequel is just so funny to me.

5. Monster's Inc.: I don't understand how or why this movie has been rated so low, but it is amazing. It's hilarious and very heartwarming and I can't wait for the prequel.

4. Up: It's said in almost every review, but the first 10 minutes of this movie is the best thing Pixar has ever done. The montage was an entire Pixar movie condensed to a short, and I'm still in awe just thinking about it now. This was Pixar, once again, proving that it wasn't just for kids since that opening had some very adult material in it. I also lost it towards the end when Carl was looking through his book and noticed that his wife Ellie had filled the adventure part of the book with their life together. I'm tearing up now just thinking about it. It was so beautiful. This is what the recent Pixar movies are missing.

3. Finding Nemo: This movie is just nonstop. Having watched it again recently the movie moves along at such a rapid pace that it's hard to catch a breath between the laughs and the sobs. Pixar's first mega-hit, and rightfully so.

2. Wall-E: Pixar's masterpiece. This movie was art. It was so full of heart that it didn't even need dialogue to show it. I absolutely balled during two parts in this movie as well: When eve was watching her own memories and saw how much Wall-E cared for her and when Wall-E was sacrificing himself for the good of everyone else (both in the trash area and when he was holding up that pedestal thing). However, there is one movie that I found to be much more fun...

1. The Incredibles: This is the movie that made me a Pixar fan. Before this I've enjoyed all their movies and recognized that Pixar was a great studio but it is this movie that made me an avid fan. The marital strife caused by boredom juxtaposed against the superhero action was just so amazing to me and it really showed that Pixar movies truly are made for everyone. Never a dull moment in this one. I'm still eagerly awaiting a sequel. Please, please Pixar! This is the one movie in your library that your fans are actually asking for a sequel to so just give us what we want.
