Let's say that he's having a long discussion with another user who disagrees with his opinion, and each post that he makes receives no like while the opponent keep receiving at least five. That would make him feel less secure about expressing his opinion.

It's like having an audience yelling 'Boooo!' at you while you try to have a discussion with someone.

But if said user is having a good enough discussion with the other user and is using valid points etc, the is no reason he also would not get likes for his posts.


Yes there is. Just because an argument is valid that doesn't stop it from being unique, or against the great majority's opinion.
