Can you move messages/merge threads?

I lurk a lot at Beyond3D (they're using phpBB). It happens often that a thread goes off-topic and a moderator moves the off-topic messages to a new thread.

Can this be done here?

Why are we using this message system instead of an established one? Wouldn't that be easier?
