Depending on what iPod you have, your choice of games could expand greatly. The thing is, the 3rd generation iTouches are not the same, even after you disregard the flash memory capacity. The 8 GB model has the same processor from the 2nd generation or iTouches. The 32GB and 64GB models have the 3rd generation processor, so it can run 3D games more smoothly, and can be compatible with newer games. Games like Dead Space (graphics-wise) would not be able to run on the 8GB model, but can run on the 32 and 64 GB models. Keep in mind this only applies for the 3rd generation of iPod Touch. The 4th generation all have the same processors.

Anyway, the App Store is full of surprises, and great games going free for a short period of time is very common. Don't be surprised if you purchase a game soon before it goes on sale, or even becomes free for a day.

I actually might have the 4th Gen Touch after all. Not quite sure, but it seems like they introduced the front camera with that version and I have a front camera on mine. However, I have a 16GB iPod Touch, but the 4th Gen only seems to have 8, 32 and 64??

How do I follow which games are on sale and such?

Yes, the 4th gen has a camera. it's also got the Retina Display, which previous iPod Touches do not have.

There are several free apps you can download that track sales, discounts, and free promotions. The one I use is called Appsmart. You can put games on your wish list, and if the game goes on sale, the app will notify you (assuming you have Notifications turned on for your desired app tracker app in the Notification Center. If you desire something more simple, IGN.com has a daily article call the App Store Update which highlights all the important game debuts, updates, sales, and promotions that are worth your attention. I use it very often.
