But if I went to Reggie right now and asked for one like the NES, he'd say he'd already given me a KI game because it has all the characters/items/enemies/music. We're never getting an NES sequel, therefore it's replacement.

If Kid Icarus was a bigger franchise, we probably would get a new NES-like game. But on the contrary, the one NES sequel Nintendo has ever made was pretty much a failure. I can easily see why Nintendo would stick to the rebooted format.
