Yea, according to Wikipedia it sold 102.5m. Wii is at 96.25m...But on VGC PS1 is at 104.25...which is wrong. Sony gave detailed shipment numbers here: http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/data/bizdataps_e.html
So 102.5m - ~96.25m leaves 6.26m consoles for Wii to surpass PS1. It has been 5 years and 7 months since Wii launched up to today.
In the same comparable time for the PS1 (5 years, 7 months), it sold ~74m up to that point (starting from the Dec 1994 Japanese launch...as opposed to the Sep 1995 in America) WORLDWIDE. That mark was around July 3rd, 2000. By March 31st, 2005, it was officially done selling another unit ;'(. At the PS2 launch (March 2000), it was at ~72.5m sold.
So, from July 2000 to April 2005 (4 years, 9 months), the PS1 managed to sell 28.5 million more units, 30m if you go back to March 2000 when its successor launched.
I highly doubt the Wii cannot reach another 10m in comparison. I would check N64 & GC post launch numbers, but VGC has deleted all the data and chart functionality necessary to do that ages ago.
