Plus Nintendo only has one first party studio in the US, Retro. So their resources are limited for developing their western focused games. I do agree, Nintendo does need more first party studios. And I would like for them to do their own twist on an M rated game.

Westerners love Nintendo for its family image. If they want mature titles their kind of trained to know which consoles to turn to. Nintendo is partially at fault for the perception issues. Then again...Walt Disney did the same, but Osamu Tezuka made Animation watchable for all ages with child-like all the way to gore-filled mangas and animes.

I understand what you are saying, but, like Disney, I don't think they want their image to change in the US. That's why Disney doesn't publish it's graphically violent content under the Disney label, instead they use the Miramax label. This includes the Miazaki films they distribute in the US.

I'm sure Nintendo has discussed internally about creating violent games internally, but either they are not interested in do so, or they feel like they would need to have an external studio do it for them. Nintendo, likes to do what they know and march to their own drum. They have also be critisized since the SNES about the same things you are saying. Look at Mortal Kombat for the SNEs.
