Looking after each other and having a tight knit community is often a way of hiding secrets see The Branch Davidians and the FLDS. And as the video that I posted earlier on page 2 of the forum from styxhexenhammer666 says the "And I'm a Mormon" campaign that they plaster all over youtube and on humongous billboards in major cities indicates that they're very much interested in attracting new members.

I expect them to try to and gain members. They even go door to door to do so. But they do not try and do it in every conversation. They have a time and a place for it. Having a tight knit community may be a way of hiding secrets. That is fine, it doesn't change the fact the mormons I know are all well adjusted people who excibit great values to those around them. I can't find a problem with that.
Edit: I have forgotten about the door to door mormons. But even then its simply a i'm not interseted and they are on their way.

Personally, I like the Penn Gilette way of thinking. He's an atheist... thinks believing in god is stupid.
Still... he's touched by people trying to convert him, because he realizes that what they are trying to do from their perspective is save his soul.
Which really is quite a gesture.

It's better than tricking them into handing their guns over to you and then and gunning them down in cold blood I suppose.
