Mormonism is a cult. But then, so is Catholicism.
Look up the meaning of the word "cult". It's actually a synonym for "religion" - it's just that "cult" carries a negative connotation, and thus is only ever used by people of one religion to denigrate people of another religion.
And for the record, most religions are dangerous in one way or another, because they encourage closed-mindedness. As was so well-put by Tim Minchin (Australian musical comedian), "Science adjusts it's beliefs based on what's observed. Faith is the denial of observation so that Belief can be preserved."
