Third-party exclusives are immensely rare at this point. Things are too competitive for a company to do an exclusive, unless someone moneyhats them. Moneyhatting is insane now. Now, a company can hire a company to develop and IP for them, and treat a third-party as a second party. About all three of the console makers are doing that now. With Nintendo, their first-party is what drives their exclusives, and is a strength. What matters, in regards to third-party, is that Nintendo get the top titles on their console and have them compete well enough with the other consoles. They do need the like of Black Ops 2. They lost this with the Wii, because the Wii was a different animal. With the WiiU, they do have a chance to get third party titles, but also have them possibly be best played on their own console with the second screen.
