Why didn't Nintendo make more realistic, violent games for the Wii just to prove 3rd parties wrong?

It's funny, some of the best HD third party games I've played actually have similarities to Nintendo franchises, which is probably why I like them so much.

Imagine a game where you're left in a strange environment, with basic abilities at the start of the game, but you slowly attain more powerful abilities as you progress through the game world. Is that Metroid or BioShock?

Then there's the two batman games. The first was another Metroid like experience, and the second expanded on that and added elements of Zelda.
