Edit: I'm kind of an idiot for posting, and then reading the OP...I kind of mis-read the point of the thread.

 

New response: They're stuck on the idea of keeping a family friendly image I guess. I guess they figure they can do better with selling games that appeal to any age group...rather than make games that are violent and cut out the possibility of young children or old people buying them...even though this is the age group that does the most gaming and buys more games. 

Yes, because Nintendo handily needs to sell more of their own software than the already do.
