They probably adjusted it based on the numbers, then got back from Sony a clarification on what said numbers meant and as such switched them back.

Seems like the most logical conclusion.

My god the stupid conspiracy theroies.  Ioi has a grudge against god of war?

Why?

Was he a Greek mythology major?

I do agree the conspiracy theories are stupid... but the removal of the adjustment was definitely an error.

Based on the shipped numbers, GoW III had around 200k on shelves after the adjustment. Now after the adjustment was removed, it has about 800k on shelves, which is not very likely for a 2 year old game, I suppose.

To clarify, VGC adjusted Up based on shipped numbers, but the adjustment was removed due to a site error. Thats the only logical explaination I guess. It would help if a staff member would confirm whats going on.

Or... like I said, Sony clarified what those numbers meant, and they adjusted it back.

A) Just because something has been shipped but not sold, doesn't mean that stuff is still on the shelf.   There are tons of things that could be unknown.

B) Looking at the regional numbers.

200K In the US/canada actually seems pretty reasonable.  GoW 3 is one of those "window" games, that you see in every store despite being 2 years old.  You go in a target or a walmart, they don't have half the new game!  They have GoW 3 though.  This is really beleivable if this contains south american numbers as well.

Japan 417,000 vs 120,000.   That really depends on the initial shipment.  If the initial shipment was 417,000.  That's totally believable.  They thought they'd be able to hype this one through, and it just didn't work.

Europe/others is the only one that'd look "iffy" but I don't really know enough about Europeon stores, they seem more fractured then the US, and with so many distributors it's not as unlikely as you'd think.  Espiecally for a "storefront" game.

Or for that matter, what their agreements are like.  For example.  In the book industry, books are sold on cosignment in the US.  If you can't sell a book?  You can return it to the publisher within 6 months.  (And they'll still count those books as shipped.)

So for example, Sony could of at some point really wanted to make sure GoW3 would be in stock, offered a limited return plan.  Got some returns, then resold those game, allowing them to count twice.  Afterall they are using the term "Sell in".

Could be a bug, or it could just make a lot more sense then you'd think based on unknown information.

No way to tell really.
