Not sure about 2012, but in 2011 E3 has 46,800 attendees.

Gamescom 2011 had 275,000 attendees.

E3 not allow common people get in

Which is the all the more reason to be at Gamescom. Your consumer base are the ones who attend.

you really think it's so important to let consumers already owning consoles play a few demos? it's not like half of the people visiting the gamescom plan to buy a ps3 or 360. they already have them. it's maybe imprtant for sony to show vita to the public and it could be maybe good for nintendo because of the wii u but microsoft doesn't have to show some demos they can play later on live to people who won't buy a 360 anymore or already have a 360.

and new game announcements only shown on some screens, who needs that? we all have a laptop/tablet/desktop pc

only reason i see it important is because television will report about it (at least german television) if we see sony on tv but not nintendo and microsoft i think this will mean more tv time for sony which is good advertisement.

Yeah, why not? The customers play games they otherwise wouldn't be able to to and then get to spread information via word of mouth.

Pleasing your customer base is one of the best ways to keep them loyal.

why can't they otherwise? we get them as demos some weeks before release...why do i have to play forza if i can at home as demo? and like i said, people who don't own consoles don't go to the gamescom. not that late in this gen. sure with new consoles i think it's important, that's why i said sony should be there for vita and nintendo for wii u if they really think people will like it if the play wii u demos. but i see not much microsoft could do there, even if they would have many more games. not for millions such a convention will cost a company. will they sell 2k 360s  to the 250k visitors and their friends after that? not very important.

€dit: ok you said please the customers i read over that. yeah ok this is maybe a point but not sure if really so important anymore.
