well I completely agree with you..... WiiU is next gen by many factors other than graphics and we can safely say that it will be probably next gen on graphics at least by its hardware capacity too....
but beside that one or 2 years later a new console will come from sony and MS and it will probably put the bar higher on many things... from graphics to media capabilities to connectivity with other device with kinect Move 3d etc... which will make them next gen too and probably of a higher grade than the WiiU....
you have to remember if a console is capable of really higher graphic it is also capable to have a lot more things possible at other level in the game... better AI... mor simultaneous players, better physics better anything that requires more resource hardware wise....
nintendo WiiU is the next gen of the Wii PS4 of the PS3 and next box of the 360 people should just concider that after if we have to say which one is more next gen the best way to do it is on tangible spec.... because inovation might not always be the best barometer.... some people like some stuff other don't and graphic often ends being the most tangible and gageable thing in VG....
heck from an innovative point of view Kinect would be the most innovative / adavnce / next gen of all three motion system this gen yet we can safely say that Wiimote is the most appreciated and the one that had the devs be the most creative second comes move and third kinect....
while I agree with your feeling.... I also have to admit that by tangible standard PS4 and Nextbox will be more next gen than the WiiU when they come out.... unless they change their business approach completely at MS and Sony....
