Nintendo explains why core gameplay can't change in 2D Mario games

2D Mario doesn't need to change, bit it would be nice if they put a bit more effort in local multiplayer then putting more characters on the same screen. Split screen option, different paths for co-op.
I don't think player 2 moving a platforms around on the wiiU controller will be fun for long, not it.
